A milestone birthday, a celebration of service

Raymond V. "Bucky" Calleaux is about to reach another milestone.

The Marine Corps veteran who served in the Korean War will turn 100 in early November - just in time for Veterans Day, and also for the third annual Veterans Dinner sponsored by Norfolk American Legion Post 335.

Calleaux will be among the honored guests for the dinner, which will be held Nov. 8 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the ballroom of Lake Pearl Wrentham at 299 Creek St. The event, free for veterans and their guests, will include a guest speaker, music and a chance to socialize with fellow veterans.

According to Al Bozza, the post's junior vice commander, invitation letters to veterans have been sent, with a deadline to RSVP set for Nov. 1. Last year, the event drew about 125 veterans and guests.

Bozza said that committees have been formed to help with the dinner, and that financial donations and volunteers would be welcome.

Earlier this year, the town honored Calleaux with the Boston Post Cane, which is given to the town's oldest resident. In 2025, he received a special certificate marking his 75 years of membership with the American Legion.
