The Fiske Public Library has a variety of programs planned for September. The library will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day, and Saturday hours resume Sept. 12.

Children's Programs

Student Reading Challenge 2026-2027 Fiske is partnering with the Massachusetts Center for the Book for its Reading Challenge: Massachusetts Student Edition. Students read a book each month based on a specific prompt, track their progress with a reading challenge passport and can earn prizes for participating. September's challenge is to read a book set in a school.

Reading Dragons and Friends Beginning Sept. 1, children ages 5 and older can track their reading at home and earn new dragon cards for every two hours they read. New cards will be released each month. Trackers and starter cards are available in the children's room.

Halloween Costume Swap Gently used, clean children's Halloween costumes may be dropped off Sept. 21-Oct. 2. Beginning Saturday, Oct. 3, families can "shop" for new-to-you costumes throughout October while supplies last.

Blast Off! The Science Behind Rockets and Planes Fridays, Sept. 11 and 25, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Children ages 7-12 can explore aerospace engineering through paper airplanes, straw rockets and other hands-on activities while learning about thrust, drag, lift and Newton's laws of motion. The final session is scheduled to include a model rocket launch, weather and conditions permitting. Registration is required.

Book Bedazzling for Tweens and Teens Thursday, Sept. 17, 6-7:15 p.m. Youth ages 11-18 can bring a book and decorate its cover with sparkles and other details. Registration begins Sept. 3.

Perri's Pencil Problem Read Aloud and Kindness Activity Saturday, Sept. 19, 1-2 p.m. Wrentham teen author Marleigh Brown will read her book, Perri's Pencil Problem, followed by a children's activity focused on kindness. Registration begins Sept. 5.

Adult Programs

The Plight of Loyalists on the Eve of Independence Wednesday, Sept. 9, 6:30 p.m. Historian Alexander Cain will discuss the experiences of American Loyalists from New England and New York during the Revolutionary War, including Loyalist families from Wrentham. The program is sponsored by the Fiske Library Foundation as part of its Revolution 250 Speaker Series. Registration is required.

Learn to Sew! Saturdays, Sept. 12, 19 and 26, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. This three-week series for ages 10 and older teaches participants how to use a sewing machine and develop basic sewing skills. The library has six sewing machines available for participants to use. Space is limited to six, and registration is required.

The Montauk Project: Stranger Than Fiction Wednesday, Sept. 30, 7 p.m. Author and paranormal investigator Dustin Pari will explore the legend of the Montauk Project, alleged Cold War-era experiments involving mind control, psychic research and other phenomena, and the story's influence on popular culture, including Stranger Things. The program is free and open to the public. Registration is required.
