On July 14, four members of Boy Scout Troop 80 - all Senior Patrol Leaders about to begin their first steps toward Eagle Scout - donated $500 to the Norfolk Food Pantry, which is in the back of Emmanuel Baptist Church on Rockwood Road.

The troop raised money through a car wash and the annual Christmas tree pickup, the troop's biggest fundraiser of the year. After doing some research, the Senior Patrol Leaders decided to donate a part of the proceeds to the Food Pantry.

"Food's expensive right now," said Scout Sebastian Rizzo.

Kelley Brown, the pantry's director, took the Scouts on a tour of the facility, which comprises a storage unit and the pantry itself. She told the Scouts the money will be used to purchase milk and fresh produce, as well as pay for utilities and maintenance.

"Every little bit gets well utilized," she said, adding that current pantry needs include instant coffee, hygiene products, detergent, cleaning supplies and gift cards.

The pantry is overseen by the church as a community effort, said Pastor Kyle Degagne. "It's a way to love your neighbor," he said.

The Norfolk Food Pantry started in 1992, and is a partner with the Greater Boston Food Bank. The food pantry is open to Norfolk residents (proof of residency required); hours are Saturdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. For information, go to https://www.ebcnorfolk.org/foodpantry.
