Freeman-Kennedy band earns 14th consecutive gold medal at MICCA Festival
The Freeman-Kennedy Elementary School Advanced Band recently brought home another gold medal from the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) Festival, extending a winning streak that now spans 14 consecutive years.
Under the direction of John Fouracre, the ensemble performed before a panel of adjudicators at one of the state’s most competitive music festivals.
The gold medal marks the band’s 17th MICCA appearance overall — a record that includes three silver medals and 14 golds in a row.
Over the years, Freeman-Kennedy’s Advanced Band has performed at some of New England’s most prestigious venues, including Symphony Hall in Boston, Mechanics Hall in Worcester and Groton Hill Music Center in Groton.
Fouracre has led the band program at Freeman-Kennedy throughout the gold-medal run, building a tradition of musical excellence that continues to distinguish the school throughout the region.
“What Mr. Fouracre and these students have built over 14 years is extraordinary,” said Superintendent Dr. Ingrid Allardi. “Fourteen consecutive gold medals doesn’t happen by accident — it takes discipline, dedication and a teacher who shows up every single day committed to bringing out the best in young musicians. We are incredibly proud of the Advanced Band and grateful to have Mr. Fouracre leading this program.”
