Miles for Maura 5K to Honor KP Alumna, Raise Awareness

The King Philip Regional High School SADD chapter will host its annual Miles for Maura 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, May 3, in memory of Maura D. Howard, a KP alumna who was killed by a drunk driver.

The event, which offers both in-person and hybrid participation options, honors Howard’s life while raising awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. Proceeds from the event support scholarships for King Philip graduates.

Howard was killed on July 31, 1994, while returning home from a weekend trip with friends. The annual run/walk serves as both a tribute to her memory and a way to promote responsible decision-making.

The event will be held at King Philip Regional High School, 201 Franklin St., Wrentham. Registration and bib pickup begin at 9 a.m., followed by the 5K run at 9:45 a.m. and the walk at 10 a.m.

Registration fees are $25 for adults, $10 for ages 6–18, and free for children ages 5 and under. The event includes water, snacks, commemorative T-shirts, and prizes for top runners.

Participants can pre-register online or make donations through the event’s website: https://runsignup.com/Race/MA/Wrentham/MilesforMaura.

Donations by mail may be sent to the Maura D. Howard Memorial Fund, c/o OneLocal Bank, 11 Central St., Norwood, MA 02062.
