Take Part in Open Space/Recreation Use Survey

Residents in Norfolk are invited to help determine what happens with the town’s open space and recreation land over the next decade.

A survey is now available on the town’s home page, www.norfolkmass.gov. This survey includes questions about how often residents use recreational and conservation areas such as Kunde Conservation Land and the Campbell Forest; the reasons behind using (or not using) town recreational facilities; how often residents use facilities in other communities; and what amenities residents would like to see (better parking, improved lighting, etc.)

An updated plan would help the town set policy and priority actions for its open space and recreational facilities. It would also enable the town to access key funding sources from the state, such as Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Committees (PARC) grants.

The survey is open to all residents; the deadline to take the survey is May 1.

The last Open Space and Recreation Plan was completed in 2017 and was certified through 2022.

In addition to the survey, the town will be seeking four residents to volunteer on the Open Space and Recreation Plan Steering Committee, according to Director of Planning and Development Richard McCarthy.

The committee will also include one member of the Conservation Commission; one member of the Recreation Commission; one member of the Select Board; and four residents. The members will serve on the committee until the Open Space and Recreation Plan is certified by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. Once certified, the plan will be good for 10 years.
