Norfolk Select Board member Dr. Taiese Bingham-Hickman was recently recognized at the annual “Black Excellence on the Hill” event hosted by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus.

State Senator Becca Rausch nominated Bingham-Hickman for the recognition, which honors Black leaders from across Massachusetts for their contributions to their communities.

“It was my honor to nominate Dr. Taiese Bingham-Hickman, an educator, leader, and advocate for inclusive health care and housing, and the first Black woman elected to the Town of Norfolk Select Board in history,” Rausch said in a statement.

Bingham-Hickman serves as Executive Director of The Leadership Alliance at Brown University, where she is also an adjunct assistant professor of biology. She is the founder and CEO of the New England Equity Collective, which promotes equity and access to housing.

According to the event program, Bingham-Hickman made history in 2025 when she became the first Black woman elected to the Norfolk Select Board. Her professional experience spans healthcare, disability advocacy, education, and housing.

In addition to her work at Brown University and with the New England Equity Collective, Bingham-Hickman serves on the boards of the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress and Autism Care Partners.

A native of Lynn, Bingham-Hickman has lived in Norfolk since 2017.
